Against Me! release new album

Against Me!, the Florida punk flag bearers have released their seventh studio album Shape Shift With Me. The album was written whilst on tour over the last two years since the release of 2014’s emotional and highly personal Transgender Dysphoria Blues.

Front-woman Laura Jane Grace said it is a step in a “really different” direction while talking to Rolling Stone last year. The album is “a collaborative effort” as the press release puts it, something that Against Me! and their ever evolving sound are sure to take in their stride.

The band made headlines during May of this year when Laura Jane Grace, who came out trans in 2012, burnt her male birth certificate in protest of North Carolina’s HB2 “anti-trans” bathroom laws. In contrast to Springsteen or Pearl Jam who boycotted the state on their respective tours, Against Me! took centre stage in the debate continuing to play the show, a true hark back to the bands start as a solo protest-punk group.

The first single “333” is an anthemic number and hopefully an insight into what is to follow on the album. The album, which was released on 16th September on the band owned Total Treble label is available now and the release will be accompanied with a December European tour.

For years now, I have been interested in journalism and the media and creating Young Perspective gave me the opportunity I needed to further explore this area of work. I enjoy being able to help (or try to) other writers and see behind the news. I look forward to Young Perspective continuing to grow and help more young writers create portfolios.
